Choosing an awning

Colin hasn’t arrived yet but we wanted to be ready to roll as soon as he does. We decided long ago that we wanted an awning for our campervan.

Having decided to get a 2 berth campervan instead of a 4 berth pop-top, we ideally need somewhere for our son to sleep, should he decide to come with us.

Having been to many camping etc shows at the NEC we had decided that we liked the look of the self-inflating awnings. As usual, a tad expensive.

Our trial run campervan holiday at Easter came with an awning. This one was a pump-up awning with inflatable poles. We were pleased to give it a go, see how easy it was to put up. We were certainly tested by the weather as we had to put it up in the rain. Anyway, long story short, it wasn’t exactly waterproof and certainly would not have been suitable for our son to sleep inside.

Back to square one. And browsing the internet. Until I stumbled upon Sheltapod…. A drive away awning come tent come shelter. Just perfect.

They come in a variety of colours… And orange! Perfect to fit in with Colin’s interior colour.

We love the fact that you can have the front folded up so you can look out onto the world, or down to protect you from the elements. It has an internal bedroom compartment which can be attached… Perfect for either the boy to sleep in or us, if the van is too hot! Clear windows so we can watch the stars with added black out cover if you want to sleep! Certainly big enough for our camping chairs and a table or a double bed if needed!

Just perfect. Can’t wait to use it now!
